Commitment: are we lacking in it?

Commitment: the process or an instance of committing oneself; a pledge or undertaking
It’s not often that one word crops up so many times in one day but today ‘commitment’ has managed to permeate every conversation. I’m a strong believer in collaboration, partnerships, networking and teams however all of these terms require commitment. Each one of these words is so often used in the excitement of a new idea, the joy of a proposed new opportunity or the realisation that we have found common purpose however without commitment how can creativity become innovation? How can the partnership truly realise its potential and fulfill it’s purpose? Now commitment may sound easy when we are being seduced by the idea, it may even come easily when a new journey or relationship embarks but how often does this wain and die leaving both sides cynical and jaded by the experience.
True commitment takes tenacity, focus and vision. It requires trust, faith and to a certain extent hope and these virtues don’t always come easy. Our organisations, institutions, systems and rules don’t always engender collaboration. How often have you heard the words “there’s no mechanism” I challenge those who want truly creative solutions to think outside of their own teams and find a way to collaborate with commitment.
I have found when this works it drives not only the solution to an immediate goal but the potential to solve many more.
